Resting in the shade under a pair of stoic Oak Trees, in the middle
of California Wine Country, this solid cabernet Tudor
Trunk-Back model 48 sedan will amaze you with its
original character and overall presence. It's not very
often that you get the opportunity to view and enjoy a
great looking survivor such as this. So, pop a cork,
pour a glass and study the legs on this old girl...
In 1935, Ford used the slogan “Greater Beauty, Greater
Comfort, and Greater Safety” to help entice those
dwindling buyers, who could still afford a car during
the difficult era of the Great Depression. Completely
restyled with a new chassis, the V8 engine was moved
forward eight inches which dramatically increased the
passenger area. Ford dubbed this redesign the
'Center-Poise Ride'...
Body changes as compared to earlier design years included
softer lines, less angles, narrower front grille which
no longer came to a point, front fenders & hood
decreased in length, fenders even with grill, shorter
hood louvers with bright metal horizontal accents,
eliminated cowl lamps, painted headlights and the last year with wire wheels &
external horns. In a league of its own, Ford again made
changes during the 1936 model year. Now onto this beauty...
Sitting on its original chassis, she's powered by a
period correct 221 cubic-inch eight cylinder V8 engine
that was rated at 85 horsepower equipped with standard
Stromberg 2bbl carburetor, 3 speed manual shift
transmission and closed driveshaft conventional rear
differential. Original four-wheel mechanically-actuated
drum brakes provide the stopping power and updated
aluminum radiator...
Her body is absolutely solid and very straight, the dark
maroon exterior finish shows extremely well, gorgeous
grill & glistening bright work, cream wire wheels
w/beauty rings, deluxe hub caps & bias ply tires, solid
trunk tool wells, strong floor pans & fenders and
original running boards & vulcanized covering, (nothing
is overdone with expected light patina/use areas).
The interior shows a wonderful factory waterfall dash fitted with a
working original radio, very nice factory
instrumentation, period air conditioning (dash fan :-),
heater assembly (water not connected, restored
reproduction upholstery, headliner, door/kick panels,
armrests and carpet...
In closing, this is a real gem that whispers at you, just like an
old California Oak Tree, you will not be disappointed at its
presence and obvious all around honesty. Putt Putt, load
it up and lets' go... |
