Truly a legendary
motorcar, the Austin Healey 100-4 BN-1 set new standards
for the sports car market in many ways. A Motor Trend
review at the time summed it up very well with "It's
beauty of line and record-smashing performance make this
new sports car a natural for enthusiasts and housewives
alike... IT'S REALLY THAT GOOD!" and early
company ad's noted "In fact, the Austin-Healey Hundred
has everything for the skillful driver who wishes to
practice the exciting art of fast motoring."...
The name 'Austin Healey'
was the result of a partnership with the designer,
Donald Mitchell Healey, and the manufacturer, Austin.
The 100 represented the ability to break the 100mph
barrier powered by a A-90, 2660 cc, 4 cylinder engine
capable of producing 94 horsepower. These cars were
built for the real driving enthusiast, not only did they
have 2/3 more power than the MG-TD but 120% more lbs of
torque and neatly fit the price gap between Triumph's
TR-2 and the more expensive XK120/140. Production was
ramped up to the rate of 100 cars per week for the
American market with 10,688 total production. I say we
fold the windscreen back, pull your goggles down and hit
the road...
This particular specimen shows very well in it's
original and uniquely rare "Lustreen Green" as noted on its British Motor Industry Heritage Trust
certificate "*This car was finished in a special paint
colour only found on very few cars, and was specially
trimmed by the Jensens" and notes the original interior
as Pale Beige*(currently black). A document binder is
included with the vehicle that contains the above
referenced certificate (see additional photos), early
BN-1 facts/ads/etc, a few engine restoration photos and
an early picture of Don Healey sitting in what "appears"
to be the same color combo car as built with same BN1
1954 front plate, driving lamp and other options. We
have no proof that it is the same car but it is
"believed" to be; as very few cars were produced as
such...
Other than the Certificate of Heritage noting that it
was issued to a Mr. T Snider on the 6th June 1990, we
have no prior ownership or details of restoration
history or age. The body is very straight, all
compartments shut well, and the paint is professional in
nature with very light patina as noted in photos/video.
The driver compartment shows exceptional condition,
restored in black vinyl, showing little or no signs of wear
since restoration. The cockpit cover fits well and is of
equal condition. The power train shows as correct, it
starts well, sounds great and ran exceptional during
documentation (see start video). The chassis and
undercarriage is solid with all body chassis numbers
appearing in appropriate places (see photos) and appears
as factory correct. Appears as an older restoration with
few miles since complete, enjoyed lightly, started as
needed and always stored covered indoors... |
