Description |
Ok, here we go, let's take a trip... Hey Boo Boo
"where's yer picnic basket"? Up for your
consideration and viewing pleasure is this very
desirable and wonderfully preserved low production mid
50's station wagon.
The last event that
this vehicle participated in was
the
Lake Forrest, California event where it was up against
other fine Pontiac specimens, this was a judged event
and it won "Best of Show" …
With only 4,042 Model 2764DF (series 27) wagons
produced, I would say this is a very "Special"
& Unique vehicle. To learn more about these cars and this well
documented specimen. (former Len Sokol Car w/added
Dual 4bbl Components). With our gratitude for it's
historic documentation and recent information, we invite you to visit this
great website>>
www.PontiacSafari.com
An older original restoration in
excellent well preserved cosmetic and operational
condition with period power additions. (drive, show and enjoy)! Beautiful in its original
"Spring Colors" of Avalon
Blue and Nimbus Grey. The original radio was
converted to AM/FM stereo and plays great. The car
runs as good as it looks with plenty of power with
its original four speed Hydro Matic transmission.
Included are tons of photos and background material on the
history of these great cars... Much rarer than any
Chevy Nomad... the perfect addition to any size
collection! Don't miss this rare opportunity, "Good Day -
Paul Harvey"

Free and Clear Private Party Titled in California! Part
of an extensive Private So-Cal Collection.
Our updated research and information has revealed more
great facts about this car and how the Dual 4bbl
conversion was performed by Len Sokol, a long time owner
& historian, who enjoyed the car and later sold in 1986.
Special Thanks to Rick Sorgen for his friendly "Thorough
Questioning" and historic research as to how this car was/has been updated
over the years,
noted below:
Re:
Len Sokol Safari Wagon,
After some effort in going back through my huge
file of 285HP documents, from Feb 2006, Len
Sokol's statement on the authenticity of his
1956 Safari as follows:
"Just to answer the question posed by
Rick, my Safari was not originally optioned with
the 285-hp engine. It was "half"-upgraded. I had
obtained a fairly complete 285-hp motor (with
the HY block stamp) which had been pulled out of
a 55 GMC pickup (even had GMC valve covers on
it!), obviously not its original birthplace.
Under severe time and budget constraints, I
rebuilt the top end only and put it on my stock
'56 Safari block (basically no appreciable
difference) along with new cam and lifters. I
had to fabricate the RH valve cover and
generator bracket, and did a little metal work
on the valley cover, vent tube, and on a 56
Caddy air cleaner, but when all was said and
done it was a pretty accurate representation,
primarily due to the correct heads, carbs, gas
lines, linkage, and dual-point distributor. The
car was sold in early 1986 --- and seen once or
twice.
Len"
So
now we have correctly documented for posterity.
"Having said that, it is a very nice Safari"
Rick
