Restoration overview
1967 Corvette Coupe VIN. 194377S106568
The car was originally
purchased from a Stockton CA. dealership and spent the
majority of its life in and around Sonora CA. Purchased
in by 2001 by the current owner, "Jim's Rod's of Nevada"
as a completely disassembled project. The body was set
on the chassis to allow transport to his shop in Minden
NV. During the next 8 years Jim has performed a complete
body off restoration with the intention of building the
car as a personal driver.
Restoration process:
Body was removed, completely stripped and prepared for
paint. The chassis was disassembled and all bushings,
and suspension components were replaced with the best
quality pieces. Trailing arms were rebuilt, brake
calipers were sleeved and rebuilt, all u-joints were
replaced. Flexible brake lines were replaced with steel
braided teflon. The master cylinder was replaced and
DOT 5 silicon brake fluid was used. The best quality
brake pads were installed along with the best Delco gas
shocks.
Body was remounted with
polyurethane bushings. Body was primed with House of
Color epoxy, and painted with PPG Ermine white base,
black stinger and 2021 clear. All interior trim was
stripped and painted with correct black satin finish
Urethane. Installed a new windshield and seals. New 15X6
ralley wheels with correct rings and caps, correct red
stripe bias ply tires. Re-plated bumpers and new
emblems.
Replaced the following interior components:
Floor, door interiors and rear quarters are insulated
with Wonder mat sound proofing, New correct carpet kit
with correct pad, New headliner, New correct seat
covers, Rebuilt instruments, including the Speedo and
Tachometer, Replaced turn signal switch assembly, new
heater core, Installed a Custom Auto Sound
AM/FM/Cassette/10 Disc CD system, (Original AM/FM radio
comes with the car).
Engine and related accessories:
L71, 435 HP 427. Blueprinted and balanced, Block was
stripped and tanked, bored and honed .070 over with
torque plates, aligned honed and squared, brass freeze
plugs installed. Jim used ARP main and head studs rather
than the original bolts for added strength. (The VIN
pad is machined clear, if a new owner would prefer they
can have the VIN re-stamped with the body number.)
Correct rectangular port, closed chamber heads with
hardened exhaust seats, new Manley stainless valves,
2.19 intake and 1.88 exhaust. PC seals, Isky valve
springs, ARP rocker studs, long slot rocker arms with
poly-locks.
The
cam shaft is a Comp Cams grind that matches the original
L71 cam, Comp Cams direct lube oil lifters, 3/8 push
rods, Cloyes double roller cam chain with Torrington
trust bearing and cam button.
Keith
Black forged correct replacement pistons, speed pro
rings, Clevite bearings. Connecting rods are original
L71 that were resized and have ARP rod bolts installed.
I used a new factory steel crank with the throws indexed
at .010 under, mains remain standard.
Cometic head gaskets, Factory Corvette 6 qt. oil pan and
windage tray, and Melling High volume oil pump, SFI
certified Hays steel flywheel and street strip clutch
assembly.
The differential was
disassembled, new seals installed. The original 3.70
posi is in like new condition. and the original Muncie M21
close ratio transmission was refurbished with all new
service parts and bearings.
The exhaust system consists of new factory manifolds and
correct side exhaust mufflers. The radiator is a Dewitts
direct fit aluminum max cool model, and uses factory
correct shroud. Modified an L88 expansion tank as a
coolant recovery tank, coolant recovery was not used in
these cars until ’73. This keeps the coolant in the
radiator and enhances cooling.
Jim
rebuilt the carbs with correct Holley kits. Re-bushed
the tack drive distributor and used braided correct
spark plug wires, New factory correct ignition shield
set, New correct steel nose starter, New correct GM Hypo
fuel pump and correct fuel lines, All hoses and cables
are new, Gel battery, New engine and trans mounts, New
fuel tank cap and boot, all light bulbs were replaced,
lenses are all new. Additionally, the original owner’s
manual and spare tire are with the car.
In
closing, we think you get the idea, this is a
professionally built and painstakingly assembled
specimen with absolutely zero excuses. Pick it up direct
from the careful restorer, you can't get better than
