Description

Restoration overview 1967 Corvette Coupe VIN. 194377S106568

The car was originally purchased from a Stockton CA. dealership and spent the majority of its life in and around Sonora CA. Purchased in by 2001 by the current owner, "Jim's Rod's of Nevada" as a completely disassembled project. The body was set on the chassis to allow transport to his shop in Minden NV. During the next 8 years Jim has performed a complete body off restoration with the intention of building the car as a personal driver.

Restoration process:

Body was removed, completely stripped and prepared for paint. The chassis was disassembled and all bushings, and suspension components were replaced with the best quality pieces. Trailing arms were rebuilt, brake calipers were sleeved and rebuilt, all u-joints were replaced. Flexible brake lines were replaced with steel braided teflon. The master cylinder was replaced and DOT 5 silicon brake fluid was used. The best quality brake pads were installed along with the best Delco gas shocks.

Body was remounted with polyurethane bushings. Body was primed with House of Color epoxy, and painted with PPG Ermine white base, black stinger and 2021 clear. All interior trim was stripped and painted with correct black satin finish Urethane. Installed a new windshield and seals. New 15X6 ralley wheels with correct rings and caps, correct red stripe bias ply tires. Re-plated bumpers and new emblems.

Replaced the following interior components:

Floor, door interiors and rear quarters are insulated with Wonder mat sound proofing, New correct carpet kit with correct pad, New headliner, New correct seat covers, Rebuilt instruments, including the Speedo and Tachometer, Replaced turn signal switch assembly, new heater core, Installed a Custom Auto Sound AM/FM/Cassette/10 Disc CD system, (Original AM/FM radio comes with the car).

Engine and related accessories:

L71, 435 HP 427.  Blueprinted and balanced, Block was stripped and tanked, bored and honed .070 over with torque plates, aligned honed and squared, brass freeze plugs installed. Jim used ARP main and head studs rather than the original bolts for added strength.  (The VIN pad is machined clear, if a new owner would prefer they can have the VIN re-stamped with the body number.)

Correct rectangular port, closed chamber heads with hardened exhaust seats, new Manley stainless valves, 2.19 intake and 1.88 exhaust.  PC seals, Isky valve springs, ARP rocker studs, long slot rocker arms with poly-locks.

The cam shaft is a Comp Cams grind that matches the original L71 cam, Comp Cams direct lube oil lifters, 3/8 push rods, Cloyes double roller cam chain with Torrington trust bearing and cam button.

Keith Black forged correct replacement pistons, speed pro rings, Clevite bearings. Connecting rods are original L71 that were resized and have ARP rod bolts installed.  I used a new factory steel crank with the throws indexed at .010 under, mains remain standard.

Cometic head gaskets, Factory Corvette 6 qt. oil pan and windage tray, and Melling High volume oil pump, SFI certified Hays steel flywheel and street strip clutch assembly.

The differential was disassembled, new seals installed. The original 3.70 posi is in like new condition. and the original Muncie M21 close ratio transmission was refurbished with all new service parts and bearings.

The exhaust system consists of new factory manifolds and correct side exhaust mufflers. The radiator is a Dewitts direct fit aluminum max cool model, and uses factory correct shroud.  Modified an L88 expansion tank as a coolant recovery tank, coolant recovery was not used in these cars until ’73. This keeps the coolant in the radiator and enhances cooling.

Jim rebuilt the carbs with correct Holley kits.  Re-bushed the tack drive distributor and used braided correct spark plug wires, New factory correct ignition shield set, New correct steel nose starter, New correct GM Hypo fuel pump and correct fuel lines, All hoses and cables are new, Gel battery, New engine and trans mounts, New fuel tank cap and boot, all light bulbs were replaced, lenses are all new. Additionally, the original owner’s manual and spare tire are with the car.

In closing, we think you get the idea, this is a professionally built and painstakingly assembled specimen with absolutely zero excuses. Pick it up direct from the careful restorer, you can't get better than that...
