How about some Hemi muscle? This "Super Muscle Car" was
built by Barry White's SMC Speed Shop of Corona, California
for episode #10 of "Wrecks to Riches" which aired on
TLC. During the grand
finale of season one, Barry set out to "create
something truly unique and capture the Spirit of 1969"
by building an A-body Hemi Dodge Dart. The theme of each
episode was to find a derelict but salvageable specimen,
transform into a "SMC" and turn it into riches across
the auction block at no reserve...
Barry's right hand man Chris Brown and his crew located
that just right derelict sitting in the weeds just
outside "Sin City-Nevada" where it had rested quietly in
the dry desert for many years. It was rust free but the
passenger door area had been hit and repaired at
sometime in it's life. It sported a crudely installed
aftermarket hood scoop and side pipes along with a worn
out small block and a completely toasted interior.
Chris's vision and concept design was to turn this
desert rat into the ultimate "Poison Dart" by enlisting
inspiration from Rikki Rockett of Poison, "Every Rose
Has It's Thorn"...
Mopar specialist Ron Jenkins of MagnumForce Race Car Fabrication would sign onto the
project in order to ensure the small uni-body was rigid
enough to handle the huge Hemi horsepower and torque.
Ron's components and hands on technical support would
shave off as much weight as possible up front and bring
it all together with Forward Strut Reinforcements for
Engine Compartment Triangulation, Aluminum Big
Block Engine Plate, Chromoly Tubular Cross-Member, Coil
Over Front Suspension, Flaming River Rack-n-Pinion Power
Steering Conversion, Tubular Sub-Frame Connectors,
relocated Forward Rear Spring Mounts and Dropped Leaf
Springs w/Billet Shackles...
In closing and keeping it short, this "SMC"
machine is sure to ignite the adrenaline in just about
anyone. A few of Barry's quote's from the TV show sums
it up very well, "Unlike anything else on the street"
and "If you buy this car, you will not pass yourself
going down the street"... |
