Let me say from the beginning, this rig is just flat out
bitch'n, fun and hard core 50's style. Part of a
collection, this gem was restored by a gentleman with a
lifetime of early Ford and Hot Rod roots...
OK Daddy-O, here's the scoop! Always on the lookout for
the next project, the owner/restorer found this in the
Santa Ynez Valley of California, where it had been resting
for more than 50 years. Tattered from time and missing a
few components, he began to unravel part of it's unique
history. It had been "rumored" by several unrelated local
parties to have been originally modified by George Barris
and/or a Barris Custom but was never verified. Either way,
it's 50's style, radical chop and several other related
components made this Hot Rod a very special project
spanning a few years while he gathered the needed items to
complete the restoration and revive this work of art....
Resting on a thorough/complete professional body-off
restoration and finished in high quality Bright Yellow
basecoat/clearcoat. The radical 5" inch chopped/filled
roof stands exactly as it was done back in the day.
However as expected, the owner stripped all filler/lead,
strengthened metal where needed and utilized modern
welding technics to bring it up to today's quality
standards. The rest of the body received the same level of
attention. Other features include louvered hood, flush
mount windshield, hidden fuel door behind L taillamp, body
color grill shell, commercial style headlamps and riding
on Steelie wheels with big/little Excelsior Stahl Sport
Radial rubber...
Resting under the hood is a nicely detailed Oldsmobile
"Olds Rocket 88" 324ci V8 poked 30 over with typical
period performance mods including Tri Power Stromberg
97's, aluminum Weiand intake manifold, remote oil filter,
tube headers and Magnaflow dual exhaust. Transferring the
vintage horsepower is a cast iron Hydra-Matic transmission
and Winters quick change rear differential. Except for a
few changes, the restored chassis remains pretty much like
it was done back in day with dropped front axle, original
Buick drum front brakes, spilt front wish-bone w/traverse
spring, gas front shocks, adjustable coil over rear
shocks and
highly detailed components....
Moving
inside, you will find neatly tucked black naugahyde
wrapped around 34' Ford bucket seats, faux rear seat,
black loop carpet, custom body color dash w/old school pin-striping, winged
Stewart Warner instrumentation, 55' Ford steering
column/shifter and a Gas Pedal. Ok? Got It, Daddy O.... |
